“Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints declare that a temple is literally a house of the Lord. Each temple is a holy sanctuary in which sacred ceremonies and ordinances of the gospel are performed by and for the living and also on behalf of the dead.” So said President Russell M. Nelson in his introductory remarks for a new video tour of the Rome Italy Temple released by the Church. The video tour was led by Elder David A. Bednar and Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

In the new video, Elders Bednar and Rasband walk through various rooms in the temple and discuss the significance of temple ordinances such as baptisms for the dead, the endowment, and marriage sealings. They also bear powerful testimonies of Jesus Christ and God’s Plan of Salvation for His children.

This new video is the latest in a series of resources made available by the Church on the clothing worn and ordinances performed in Latter-day Saint temples.

The Book of Mormon has many teachings that relate to the temple, often in subtle, intricate, and profound ways. Likewise, echoes of the temple can be detected in literary, narrative, and doctrinal themes throughout its pages. Members of the Church can enhance their understanding and appreciation for temples by closely reading the Book of Mormon.
